If you’ve been on the Internet for any length of time at all, you’ve heard of Amazon. Amazon started out specializing in books but has since branched out to sell practically everything from books, toys, sporting goods, electronics, and more.
Amazon was also one of the first companies to offer an affiiate program. As an Amazon affiliate, you earn commissions by selling their products. But the method mentioned here does not require you to sell anything.
Welcome to Mturk
In 2005, Amazon launched a new service called “Mechanical Turk” (or “Mturk” for short). Mturk operates on a very simple ideal – businesses post a request to have a small, simple task completed. A “worker” (you) completes the task in exchange for money.
Let’s take it one step further:
• A requestor posts a task known as a “Human Intelligence Task” (or “HIT”) on the Mturk site.
• A worker works on the task and submits an answer.
• The requestor reviews and accepts the completed work.
• The worker receives payment.
You’re probably saying to yourself “what’s the catch”, right?
Honestly, there isn’t one. But let’s be realistic – you will not get rich using Mturk. That’s because the HIT amounts typically are not very big. For example, one HIT asks people to write a short review of an item. It pays .21 cents for each review you complete. If you wrote 10 reviews, you would earn $2.10.
Having said that, some Mturk HITs may pay as much as $5.00. Plus, some HITs will pay a bonus if you do quality work.
Other types of HITs you may see on Mturk include giving your opinion, answering trivia, and providing feedback on your shopping experiences.
Signing up as a ‘worker’ at Mturk is free. The advantages of being a ‘worker’ are you can work from home, you choose your own hours, and you get paid for your work.
As you can see, Amazon’s Mechanical Turk is a great way to quickly make a few extra dollars. It isn’t difficult and it actually can be a fun way to make money. To get started, go to mturk.com and register as a Worker.

If you’re like me (I hope you’re not!), you’ve probably made a ton of mistakes trying to start an online business. After all, that’s the reason I created this blog in the first place.

Much as the Internet has opened many opportunities for people who are interested in earning extra money, there is a big mistake that many do to end up branding the business as unprofitable.
