Real Life Internet Business Lessons
"Do As I Say, Not As I Do"

The following is a list of hard luck lesson "snippets" that I have learned during my adventures into the world of Internet online business. I will continue to add to this list as I remember all those painful moments that I've tried so hard to forget.

eBooks

Whatever you do, DON'T buy a book or course about "How To Write An Ebook" until you're sure you have the time to commit to writing it. Otherwise, you'll never get around to it and you just wasted the price of the ebook or course.

eBay - Part 1

This is totally your decision but in my opinion, anyone who gets into selling on eBay as a business is simply working for eBay - not themselves. I say this because (1) eBay continues to raise their fees and cut into the sellers profit margins, (2) unless you have a streamlined operation, the time needed to create ads, track auctions, handle email, and pack/ship is too time consuming to be worthwhile, and (3) it's very, very difficult to find items with a decent profit margin to sell on eBay.

eBay - Part 2

One might think that a way around finding product for eBay is to do consignment auctions. My own experience with consignment auctions was horrible. At one point, I was trying to sell two UGLY pieces for an elderly client who didn't know anything about eBay. She just couldn't understand why they weren't selling. Hint: She had priced one ugly piece at a starting bid of $150.00! I was SO happy when I returned the pieces to her.

eBay - Part 3

During my eBay 'hey days', I bought an ebook titled "Free Auction Profits" by Karol Gajda. The theory behind the book is that you can buy products that offer a substantial rebate (a disk drive in my case), sell them on ebay, and pocket the difference. I actually made $50 doing this. Unfortunately, my buyer, from Guam, claimed he never received the disk drive. He finally admitted he had received it when I pressed him a bit. (That's one reason I hate eBay.)
